I'm glad you are here! This is a great place to find important dates, upcoming events and information on what we're learning about in our classroom!

Classroom Rules and Expectations:

We are C.R.E.S!

It is an individualized classroom reward and reminder system. There is also the option to send messages, so I will use this for reminders and announcements as well.

1st grade will not be sending weekly homework. We will however be sending a weekly reading log home each Monday with focus words for that week. Feel free to talk about these words and search for them in your weekly reading. These folders will also include a calendar which will be used for communication of events. Students will be talking about and adding to these calendars during our school day, so keep an eye out for those!

Friday folders will be sent home with your student every Friday. These folders will include graded work, community fliers and other types of school wide communication. Please also check these folders regularly.

What are we learning!?

We are learning social lessons with the characters Tabby Cat and Tom Cat. Lessons this month include impulse control, voice volume and tattling.

We are using details and illustrations in our stories to form opinions and write about them including reasons for our opinion. We are identifying and coming up with nouns, verbs and adjectives.

We are continuning blending, reading and segmenting 3 sounds words with digraphs as well as the bonus letter rule for ff, ll and ss at the end of one-syllable words after a short vowel. (puff, hill, miss). Our new skill is 'glued letters' 'all' at the end of a word (call, ball, fall...)

This week we are incorporating addition, take aways and 10s and 1s into story problems and math related crafts.

We intoduced the idea of 'planning to write' including brainstorming, pre writing, rough drafts and final copies. We are using some fun writing prompts these next few weeks to work on this series of skills.
1st graders are encouraged to sound out words in thier writing and reminded to use capitals, spaces and punctuation.
