Room 105's Class Website!
I'm glad you are here! This is a great place to find important dates, upcoming events and information on what we're learning about in our classroom!

CONFERENCES are coming up at the end of October. Please sign up on Skyward, and look for more information coming in this week's Homework Folder!

Classroom Rules and Expectations:

We are C.R.E.S!
Caring
Respectful/Responsible
Engaged
Safe

CLASSROOM DOJO:
I am currently working on adding parents into our classroom dojo system. It is an individualized classroom reward and reminder system. There is also the option to send messages, so I will use this for reminders and announcements as well.

HOMEWORK FOLDERS:
1st grade will not be sending weekly homework. We will however be sending a weekly reading log home each Monday with focus words for that week. Feel free to talk about these words and search for them in your weekly reading. These folders will also include a calendar which will be used for communication of events. Students will be talking about and adding to these calendars during our school day, so keep an eye out for those!

FRIDAY FOLDERS:
Friday folders will be sent home with your student every Friday. These folders will include graded work, community fliers and other types of school wide communication. Please also check these folders regularly.

What are we learning!?

We are continuing to focus on the idea of having a 'growth mindset'. We continue to discuss stretching our brains by learning new things.

Reading:
We are continuing to use 'Stellaluna' and other stories to work on story elements; characters, setting and events. We will also be working on setence structure (capital, finger spaces, puncuation) and sequencing when retelling a story.

Phonics:
Begining, middle, and ending sounds. Blending, reading and segmenting 3-sound short words (cat, sit, pup...).

Math:
Addition using the count on strategy: think big count small.

Writing:
We are working on writing Super sentences with a Capital letter, finger spaces and punctuation. We are also working on sounding out words to use in our writing.

Science:
Air and Weather
