I'm glad you are here! This is a great place to find important dates, upcoming events and information on what we're learning about in our classroom! Classroom Rules and Expectations: We are C.R.E.S! Caring Respectful/Responsible Engaged Safe CLASSROOM DOJO: It is an individualized classroom reward and reminder system. There is also the option to send messages, so I will use this for reminders and announcements as well. HOMEWORK FOLDERS: 1st grade will not be sending weekly homework. We will however be sending a weekly reading log home each Monday with focus words for that week. Feel free to talk about these words and search for them in your weekly reading. These folders will also include a calendar which will be used for communication of events. Students will be talking about and adding to these calendars during our school day, so keep an eye out for those! FRIDAY FOLDERS: Friday folders will be sent home with your student every Friday. These folders will include graded work, community fliers and other types of school wide communication. Please also check these folders regularly. | What are we learning!? February's lessons with Tom Cat and Tabby Cat include Personal Space, Asking For Help and Apologizing. Reading: This month we are using text and Holiday stories to sequence and use sequencing terms (first, next, then and last). We will also be reading and writing how-to Phonics: We are adding to our knowledge of digraphs, glued sounds and bonus letters with suffixes. We are working on the plural 's' and 'ing' ending this week. We've added glued letters 'ang' 'ing' 'ong' and 'ung'. Math: We are starting our unit on using the part, part, total idea for addition and subtraction. We start by reviewing addition (part+part=total) then introduce the idea that subtraction can be solved by finding the missing 'part' of an addition problem. Writing: We are continuing to use the idea of 'planning to write' including brainstorming, pre writing, rough drafts and final copies. 1st graders are encouraged to sound out words in their writing and reminded to use capitals, spaces and punctuation. This week our focus is how-to writing. Science: Exploring and investigating New Plants |
