Welcome Back Letter

posted Aug 23, 2017, 3:25 PM by Ryan Greene

As I start my third year at Castle Rock High School, I feel fortunate to work in a community that is so supportive of what we do at school every day.  When I drive to work during these long summer days, I enjoy seeing the pride and growth in the downtown area.  Whether it is the beautiful hanging baskets filled with colorful flowering plants or the new modern storefronts that are being constructed, it just reminds me of a town that is moving in the right direction.  I also feel that same way about our school district---all of our schools are moving in the right direction.

We had very little turnover this summer with teachers.  We are replacing one teacher and adding one new teacher for an entirely new position.  First of all, I would like to welcome Brittany Moore, our new math teacher.  Brittany just finished her teaching program at Central Washington University and will be starting her career here at Castle Rock High School.  She will be teaching Geometry and Applied Business Math.  The second addition to the teaching staff is L.J. Kruckenberg who will be starting our welding program at the school.  That’s right, welding is coming back to the high school.  This year, welding will be open to Juniors and Seniors for three class periods.  L.J. comes to us from the industry/trade world and brings a ton of knowledge to the program.  If you get a chance to stop by and meet these two additions, you will know why I am excited for both of them to be here this year.

Last year, in my back to school letter, I explained that we were moving to a one-to-one device platform at the high school.  This year it is a reality.  Every full-time student will receive a Chromebook at the start of the school year.  They will be checked out through the library just like a library book.  We are working with staff to make sure that the instruction in their classroom uses the technology that is being provided to them.  I would say that throughout the day, all students will be using their Chromebook to have more in-depth opportunities with their learning.

As a reminder, if you are a parent of an incoming Freshman, we will be conducting our 4th annual Freshman Academy on September 5th.  This day will be for Freshman only and it will be a full school day with buses on their normal routes.  They will be conducting some orientation work, taking school pictures, learning about school activities, getting their class schedule/calendar, getting their locker assignments, paying for any fees, and also meeting with every one of their teachers.  All of the other students will be joining the Freshman on September 6th to start their 2017-2018 school year.  We will also have an open house on Tuesday, September 5th from 5:00-6:30 pm.  This is a chance for Freshman parents, or parents new to the district, to come in and see the school, while introducing yourself to the teachers.

I hope you take the remainder of the summer break to rest and get ready for what I think will be a great school year for everyone.  This will be a very busy year, one I am very excited to get started. The enclosed packet should address most of your questions but, if you need any clarification, please don’t hesitate to call the school.  Thanks and we will see you soon.
