Focus at Middle School

Hard to believe we have been in school for six weeks.  Students are doing many new and interesting things in their classes.  As a school we are working on some common themes.  Students are taking Cornell Notes in science and in math classes.  These notes are a great resource for studying for tests.  6th and 7th grade math have some very nice notes and sample problems in their spiral notebooks.  Ask your student to see their work.
Staff have been reading and discussing student writing in our early release meetings on Wednesdays.  Together we are looking at areas we need to target for student improvement.  All students completed a district writing assessment and staff used a common rubric to score.  Teachers will be focusing on conventions (punctuation, capitalization, grammar usage and spelling), purpose of writing and organization.
