Stanard Response Protocol:

Our school has adopted The “I Love U Guys” Foundation’s Standard Response Protocol (SRP). Students and staff will be training, practicing, and drilling the protocol.

Common Language:

The Standard Response Protocol (SRP) is based on an all-hazards approach as opposed to individual scenarios. Like the Incident Command System (ICS), SRP utilizes clear common language while allowing for flexibility in protocol.

The premise is simple – there are five specific actions that can be performed during an incident. When communicating these, the action is labeled with a “Term of Art” and is then followed by a “Directive.” Execution of the action is performed by active participants, including students, staff, teachers and first responders. The SRP is based on the following actions: Hold, Secure, Lockdown, Evacuate, and Shelter.

IN AN EMERGENCY

TAKE ACTION:

ANNOUNCEMENT ACTION
HOLD Stay in your Classroom/area.  Clear the Halls. Business as usual.
SECURE Get inside.  Lock outside doors.  Do business as usual.
LOCKDOWN Locks, Lights, Out of Sight.
EVACUATE Location will be specified.
SHELTER Hazard and Safety strategy (Tornado, Hazmat, Earthquake, Tsunami)

Communication with parents

In an emergency situation, parents will naturally be concerned about the safety and welfare of their children.  The school will be inundated with phone calls, and parents/family will come to the scene.  The School Administrator will instruct those answering telephones what information to share with callers.  The Superintendent will provide student release information to families as soon as possible.

The Districts uses the following systems to relay information about the emergency, especially where, when, and how parents can pick up their children:

  • SchoolMessenger (Auto Caller)
  • District website
  • Skyward Message Center
  • TV stations
  • Radio stations
  • Social Media

Students will be allowed to use their cell phones once they are directect by a staff member to communicate with their parents.
