Dear Castle Rock Primary/Intermediate School Families,

Next year, the first two days of the school calendar will look a little different for grades 1 through 5. It is changing to help students and families transition into their new classrooms. During the first two days of the school year, students and families in these grade levels will be invited to participate in a conference with their new teacher. This is an opportunity for classroom teachers to meet a student and their family individually, and a chance for students to see the environment and meet the key school staff before all students are in class learning together. We are calling these “Rocket Launch to Success Conferences.” Kindergarten students and families already have a similar opportunity as part of the WaKIDS process.

This is an exciting opportunity to start building relationships. We have participated in professional development over the last year emphasizing the importance of relationship building and establishing that connection right away with students and parents to help facilitate student success. We are very excited about this opportunity to connect with students and parents.

In these Success Conferences, teachers will:

  • Interview the parent about their child, taking the time to get to know what their strengths are and what works best when they struggle,
  • Introduce the student to the classroom environment, and
  • Answer any questions the parents may have.

For the 2023-24 School Year:

  • All students in grades 1-5 will have conferences with their teacher and families. For kindergarten students, it will be part of the established WaKIDS process.
  • All students will be in their classrooms together beginning on Thursday, September 7th.
  • Kindergarten students and families will receive direct communication about their class schedules as part of the WaKIDS process.

More information about the specifics for your student’s conference will be sent to you directly from your school. If you have any questions about the conferences, please contact your school’s office staff or principal.

Sincerely,

Veronica Heller Jennifer Godinho
